Well everyone, the day we were waiting for had finally come, ALMOST!!
I have two pieces of great news:
I have two pieces of great news:
- The DevTeam is able to unlock the iPhone 3G till FW 2.2, but the Baseband shouldn't exceed 2.11. Baseband or Modem Firmware 2.28 is still not supported right now. The DevTeam had put a schedule; it seems they want to stick with it on New Year's Eve. So everyone who got baseband 2.11 or earlier, don't touch your iPhone till 31/12/2008. To the unfortunate guys, who I know very well, don't feel hopeless, the DevTeam, and of course me as an Egyptian, are beside you. The DevTeam is planning to continue till they unlock the 2.28, but they had to stick with the schedule, since it already took them long enough to unlock it. This unlock will not be through any software, it will be through Cydia on the jailbroken iPhones, so that's also fabulous! check there link: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
- The second great news, to everyone who got their iPhone from Egypt, knows very well that their GPS is banned, except if you have a reliable sim-unlock like me, and knows how to use it. Now a great man have found the solution, check this link: Hackint0ch Forums starting from Pg.15 , and you can download the Patch Here. I'm TESTING it right now!!
HAVE FUN!!!
UPDATE-2: Please don't forget to change the permissions to 755 {VERY VERY IMPORTANT!-THANKS ADHAM}
UPDATE-1: Tested, and works great. But here are some advices:
- Turn off 3G & use Edge while Google Maps/GPS Tracker searches for your location. It works easier and faster when 3G is off.
- Download GPS Tracker, it has free registration online, to track your phone's position through internet. Track Thing is also a nice app. These apps give you the exact coordinates of your location & speed. They also synchs your iPhone 3G GPS chip with satellites, since Google Maps sometimes timeouts before doing this step.
- The blue dot should take less than a minute to pin-out you location only in CLEAR SKY OUTDOORS. Using the previous two apps make things smoother.
- In worst cases, if the GPS didn't pin you out, go to Settings --> General -->Reset --> Reset Network Settings -->Reset Network Settings confirmation. Try again after reboot, should work now.
thanx sooooooooooo much my dear Friend for all these info and tips ... Now after GPS unlocked..I guess i don't have any problem to go and buy vodafone locked iphone :D
ReplyDeleteI just have two questions ...
when i get my locked phone ... and when i want to jailbreak it ... I heared that I have to use pwnage tool not quickpwn ...and pwnage tool works only on mac ...and i'm working on windows ...so is there a solution for that to jailbreak FW 2.2 iphone??
also I want to ask you about the battery ... I read online that it just lasts for few hours ... is it really so ???
thanx so much
@Dr.Mido,
ReplyDelete1- Till FW 2.0.2, there was a project called WinPWN which worked great on windows platform, but unfortunately, it stopped since 2.0.2. And since PWNage tool just produces a custom FW excluding the baseband update, as an alternative, you can just download this custom FW directly, without needing the PWNage Tool. Of course you need to press the (shift + restore) button in iTunes, to choose this custom FW produced from the PWNage Tool. And you need to guarantee the supporter of such files, or you might update the baseband by mistake, and believe me, you don’t want this to happen, at least for the iPhone 3G for now!
Attached are the both links I tested on FWs 2.1 & 2.2
FW 2.2:

FW 2.1:

2- Regarding the battery, if you use the iPhone just as a phone, at least you’ll get a full day, or a 6 to 9 hours continuous talk. If you use the WiFi, iPod, GPS, 3G, High brightness, Play Games, etc.., that definitely decreases the battery life. For an example, searching for a nearby WiFi hotspot takes a 5% of the battery. So any of the above enabled features cuts down the battery to just a couple of hours.
P.S Sorry for the Delay
Hello Moro4u ,
ReplyDeleteI just hv bought vodafone 3g 8gb today frm vodafone , jailbroken it and everything went fine
i read about how to enable gps in another blog , and it was about downloading open ssh , boss prefs and mobile terminal , and to write some commands in the mobile terminal to "secure" your iphone ...
I could successfully enable gps , but I couldn't do anything with mobile terminal as I failed to write the commands in it so i deleted it frm my iphone ...
so i want to ask , is it important to write those commands ?? as i deleted mboile terminal and everything is doing fine without writing any command
also another quest.
shall I switch SSh to off in the bossprefs or keep it on??
thanx ,
@Dr.Mido
ReplyDeleteMabrooooooooooooooo!! Just in time to celebrate with us the NEW UNLOCKING YEAR.
1- As long as you tried the GPS and it worked, the Terminal is not needed for now. But you might need it for the unlocking, though, but even this is a small probability.
2- Regarding the SSH, leaving it ON, will make your iPhone vulnerable for any access, once your IP is obtained, since we all use the default username: root, and password: alpine. Additional to that, it might indirectly decrease your battery life. So I recommend turning it off as long as you don't need it.
Hello My friend ,
ReplyDeleteI'm experiencing a problem with my yahoo mail and hoping that u can help me out with it...
I've 2 mail accounts on my iphone , a yahoo and a gmail , the gmail is working fine , but yahoo recieves mails perfectly and I'm not able to send any email through it , I searched online , they told me to delete the account and re-enter it , i did that and it worked , but 3 hours later the problem returned ...
have you ever experienced this problem ??
thanx alot
Regarding GPS i bought my iphone from UAE..should i use the patched file to use Gps ?? plz help
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteYep you should use the patch, since the new firmware update 2.2 especially has an ID check for 602 {Egypt ID}. Once any of the three carriers detected on the iPhone, the OS stops GPS access, and forbids any SW to access the GPS coordinates.
This what apple wants you to believe:
1- An iPhone purchased in Egypt does not have GPS enabled. {Working by Patch}
2- An iPhone purchased in Egypt that is used outside of Egypt does not have GPS enabled {Should work by Patch, verification needed}
3- Any iPhone used while roaming in Egypt does not have GPS enabled {Working & Apple will be disappointed, or let us say the OTHERS who doesn’t want us to use it will be really disappointed}
4- An unlocked iPhone used with an Egyptian carrier's SIM does not have GPS enabled {In Testing Phase}
5- When using Maps in the scenarios above, the blue marker does not appear, and instead a circle is used to show your approximate location and other applications that use Location Services do not provide GPS coordinates
thank you so much moro the info about the gps was really usefull
ReplyDeleteYou're always welcome my friend !
ReplyDeleteHi, it is awsome it works fine in Egypt, however it does not work outside Egypt!!!
ReplyDeleteAre there any kind of log file to see where the problem is?
